How do you gain favor?
Favor can be gained only by Court actions, i.e. being successful at
Mingling, Boasting, or Gaming, and for *losing* money at Dice. When your
favor is almost high enough to advance to a higher rank, a message
appears "Perhaps you should speak to the queen." Then you can
start to
petition.
Favor decreases by 1% at the first login each day. It also decreases if
you win money at Dice, and if you get thrown out of court for
petitioning too early.
If your favor drops to less than half the amount required for your
current rank (e.g. to less than 1800 if you're an Earl), you will be
demoted back to Squire!
How do you increase Stats?
Using your skills that you bought in the Adventurers' guild
Fighter increases Guts
Trader increase Charm
Mage increases Wits
Your choice of how to deal with encounters affects stats
Answering riddles increases wits
Attacking increases guts
Trading, Feeding and Bribing increases charm
Running away can improve wits, but can also decrease fame.
Court is also a good source for stats:
Dicing: Wits
Boast: Charm
Mingling: Charm
Gaming: Guts
Court activities do not increase Fame.
what are the Guild skills, and what do they do?
Fighter - adds +1 to attack, and gives Berserk attack. Successful use of Berserk gives a higher chance for a Guts increase. Cost of acquiring is -2 Wits and -2 Charm for each Fighter skill. Fighter skills also count towards your level with regard to equipment use.
Trader - adds +1 to defend, and gives Backstab attack. Successful use of Backstab gives a higher chance for a Guts or Charm increase. Cost of acquiring is -2 Wits and -2 Guts for each Trader skill. Trader skills also increase your chance of not losing a quest when you run away.
Mage - adds +1 to Skill, and gives Mezmerize attack. Successful use of Mezz gives a higher chance for a Wits increase. Cost of acquiring is -2 Charm and -2 Guts for each Mage skill.
Sage - allows to avoid Mez, Backstab and Ieatsu attacks (only if you don't use another guild skill in the same battle round!). Successful use of Sage does not give a higher chance for a Stat increase. Cost of acquiring is -2 Charm, -2 Wits, and -2 Guts for each Sage skill (according to rules - due to a bug it is actually -2 Guts and -4 Charm - unless Fred fixed it by now).
How do you gain Fame?
You get fame by killing creatures. Fame has no effect on the game. It is
only relevant for the ranking you can see after you log out.
How do I keep my things from rusting?
Everything in the game is subject to rust and decay (even marks!). Gear
can be protected from rust by using oil on it. You can get Fish Oil from
one of the missions in the Dragon Guard (inside the castle), or get
Snake Oil from questing. An item can hold 5 oils. Each day you log in to
your char, 1 oil is used up.
For 100k marks, the queen's Minor Blessing can be obtained in Court. It
will protect all gear that you are wearing for 1 day. For 500k, Great
Blessing will protect thing in your backpack as well.
There is no way (except oil) to keep thing in storage and in mail
packages from rusting!
How do I find Hie Brasil?
From the town, take Market Lane, then Hire Boat - this will cost 50k
marks, and 1 quest. In the Seaside Diner / Shop you can buy a rutter for
2000 marks that will show you the way to Hie Brasil. You can also get
the rutter from the Giant in the Mountains.
Where do I find the route to Shangala and Azteca?
You need a rutter for those as well. You can get the rutter for Shangala
from the Hero in Hie Brasil, who always has a riddle for you, the big
hercules guy. These are also used with the boat.
How do you get samurai skill?
First you need a bushido token, which you get from killing a samurai,
fewer guild abilities than twice your level and high stats. (about 100+
on each guts, wits and charm.)
Go to Shangala and quest until you meet a samurai. Click on Present
token.
He will either accept you, or knock the token out of your hand . If you
do get accepted, you will gain 700 or so exp and gain an ieatsu skill,
which is a combination of berserk and backstab. The downside is that you
will lose 3 guts, wits, and charm. Do this when you are at a lower level
so you can gain back these stats faster.
Do you ever die from age?
Your character will never die of old age in DC1. That said, if you
become older than 2000 in age then you will disappear from the lists in
DC.. eg Rank, Guild, Fame etc... so you will need one youth elixir a day
to keep you at the 2000 age point. You also lose your clan abilities and
your rank no longer adds to the power of your clan, so collect those
elixirs.

Items Questions
What are Ginseng roots used for?
You use them to increase the number of uses you have per turn in battle.
That way you can use 4 or 5 or whatever you need scrolls or powders at
once.
For example, if the Miners in the Dungeon hit you for 120 damage, you need
10 Healing Salve (6 with Medic), and you may need Ginsengs to be able to
use
that many between two battle rounds.
What are Mandrake Roots for?
Mandrakes give you an extra Berserk attack. In this case, the Berserk can
be
used right in the first round of combat. The downside is that each drake
you
use lowers your Wits by 3 for the rest of the day.
(In a previous version of DC, drakes used to give extra quests.)
What are Bottled Faeries?
Faeries keep you from losing any gear in your inventory when you die. They
are automatic, you only need to carry at least one in your backpack.
What do blind, panic, blast and disease do?
Panic makes your opponent run away.
Disease makes them get sick and lose skill.
Blast makes the minimum damage that weapon can do 40 guts.
The best weapons to find are those with blind because they prevent enemies
from using anything in their packs.
How you put blind, panic, blast or disease on a
weapon?
You don't. You have to find them with one of those qualities on it.
Spirit Katanas and Imacaci Masks always have Panic. Rat Tail Whips and Foul
Axes always have disease. Matchlock rifles always have Blast.
What do scrolls do?
Luck: Adds 10% skill to one weapon, if it works.
Bless: Adds 5% defense to one weapon, if it works.
Flame: Adds 10% attack to Right or two-handed weapon, if it works.
Glow: No need for torches in Dunjeon/Mounds and adds 2 skill. (Worms,
Serpents, and Anacondas eat GLOWing equipment, so I'd stick with a good ol'
Miner's Cap.)
Enchant: Unlike the other scrolls, enchant scrolls can be used on a weapon
more than once and adds one skill to the weapon, plus one attack or defend
(alternating) for every 5 enchants. The number of enchants that can be used
on an item is: 3*a + 2*d + s
(where a, d, and s are the base attack, defense and skill of the item).
Identify scrolls: Identify items when they work.
How do I use enchant scrolls?
First click on the enchant scroll in your inventory screen, click use, then
click the weapon you want to enchant, click the use button (it should read
enchant or something like that), and you should get a screen that says you
mispronounced the spell (failed) or it gives you the stats of the weapon
with +1 skill.
This is the method for using all scrolls. Success at using scrolls is
dependent on your Wits, and on the items' stats.
What are jewels for?
You can use them in place of scrolls or powders once you have enough mage
skills.
2 mage skills+Quartz=identify
4 mage skills+Opal=heal 12/20 guts
6 mage skills+Garnet=cure status
8 mage skills+Emerald=Panic
10 mage skills+Ruby=Blind
12 mage skills+Turquoise=<kaboom>40 damage
What are the benefits of youth elixirs?
When you are older than 2000 years, you drop from all the boards. So that
is
why there are youth elixirs.
How do you get rocks?
You can find rocks at places where creature are, who are able to swindle
you.
How to get a rock?
First, your whole backpack must be empty and second you must find a
creature
who can swindle you.
When you found a creature who can swindle you and your backpack is empty,
you just have to hope he will swindle you and because your backpack is
empty
he will put a rock in your backpack.
Note - Rocks are only good for trading with other players. They are very
rare junk.
(Because of cheaters who introduced a large number of rocks into the game,
they are actually not very rare anymore).
What do weird knives do?
If you find them in the Mounds, just sell them. They are too small to be
used by creatures other than goblins. The same goes for goblin plate.
Silver weird knives can be used. They are not particularly good weapons,
but
can be valuable in trades.
What are troll warts, turnips and time crystals for?
These are junk. Either dump them or collect them as trophies. Time crystals
allow you to get past Evil Fred in the Dark Vortex, and they also sell for
quite a bit of money.
What are Silvers and do I get them?
Some items in the game can be found as Silvers. They can be recognized as
Silver even before they are identified. Currently though, the chances of
getting Silvers from the wheel of fortune are much higher than by
questing.
What are Tiques and how can I get them?
Tiques are items from an earlier version of the game, when there was no
hard
limit to how many enchants could be put on a weapon (except for the lower
success rate for high stat items). The only way to obtain them now is by
trading.
